#15 Petrichor

Written as part of NaPoWriMo 2013

Have you smelt the scent of Spring outside recently? It’s beautiful.
To catch up with the ones I have missed (I apologise, as there are other little worries to be attended to), I’ll do my best to write two a day until I catch up.

The sweet scent of rain
scattered upon the dry earth
sparkling in the grass
you’ll fall smelling the perfume
intoxicated with life

#14 Daffodils

Will catch up at some point.

Tanka

Daffodils are stars
shimmering clusters that burst
into existence
twinkling in the novel warmth
birthed from the big bang of Spring.

#13 Library Tanka

Written as part of NaPoWriMo 2013

I’m in the library working on my dissertation, and you wouldn’t believe how busy it is in here. Practically a second home. Or a world within walls. Although people start becoming a little odd after being in here for too long. Here’s a short one today, so that I can spend a little more time on work. Enjoy!

Leaves flutter on shelves
paper jungle bustling with
civilisation
that today thrives well and
one day will but disappear

#12 Ghazel of the Undead

Written as part of NaPoWriMo 2013

I bet you didn’t see this coming, did you?
Never thought I might come back, did you?

Lured me; caught me, unprepared.
When I trusted and I cared. Did you?

Red pearls round my neck will never do.
Guess you didn’t think this through, did you?

Tucked me neatly in the ground,
Didn’t think I’d come around, did you?

Never imagined we’d be meeting
When my heart’s no longer beating, did you?

Never felt my hand this cold
Since you swore I shan’t grow old, did you?

Bet you never thought that this would work, did you?
Bet you didn’t see forever coming, did you?

#11 Her Sweet Elegy

Written as part of NaPoWriMo 2013

A univocalic poem using only the vowel ‘e’. It was a lot of hard work! Hope you like it.

P1050561

When she went, the sky wept.
The breeze blew by the speckled red,
Drenched by sweet effervescence.
Elsewhere the restless creek bled.
Clergymen blessed her where she slept;
Fresh greens sheltered her velvet bed.

Yet he knew she deserved better.
Swept by her spell, her mystery,
He’d sketch her tender presence,
Preserve her perfect symmetry,
Keep every vehement letter
She’d penned, brewed by her energy.

Regret rendered by the empty
Pledge they’ll never keep.
Never free, he lets verses
Remember her. The rhymes weep
Dewy jewels when they
Endlessly wed whenever they sleep.

#10 Before You Go

Written as part of NaPoWriMo Challenge 2013

If you must take the radiance with you, please
Be kind enough to leave a candle. Don’t
Let the darkness take me when you go.

If this is all you ever want then go
Ahead with all your plans and may it please
Your heart. If this be your desire don’t

Take heed the voice that tells you that you don’t
Have what it takes for I believe you’ll go
Much farther than you think you will. But please –

If I may say my will then…please don’t go.

#9 Cycle of Change

Written as part of NaPoWriMo Challenge 2013

The whole world sees she gives her life her all
Though every fibre of her heart still will
Stay hopeful that the universe won’t change.

But we know mountains shatter, rivers change
At every bend and trees that lived through all
Must crumble at the twists of Nature’s will.

As dust and grains of sand reform, she will
Collect the pains and wonders of each change,
And tell this ancient tale to one and all:

‘The cycle’s set. Don’t you see? All will change.’
